First Session of the County Court
At this time the court system consisted
of a "Superior Court of Law and Equity" and an "Inferior Court
of Pleas and Quarter Sessions," commonly called the Superior
Court and the County Court. The Superior Court of Mero district,
which embraced the counties of Davidson, Sumner, and Tennessee,
held its sessions at Nashville. The County Court had
jurisdiction of all questions involving the life, liberty or
property of the citizen, as well as certain legislative
functions.
The court ordered the following jurors
to be summoned to its next term, to be held on the third Monday
in July, 1789, at Isaac Tittsworth's, to wit:
